Statement on provisional season restart date

Manchester United have announced they have extended Odion Ighalo’s loan spell, with the Nigerian now staying at Old Trafford until the end of January 2021.

A boyhood Man Utd fan, Ighalo made his move at the end of the winter transfer window but was only able to make four Premier League appearances before the season was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 30-year-old striker, who has scored four goals in eight appearances in all competitions since his arrival, was originally due to return to Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua at the end of May.

Speaking about Ighalo’s situation last week, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told the club's official website: “They [Shanghai Shenhua] have been great towards us, allowing him to play for his dream club.

“It’s been a dream for him and hopefully he can finish what he started and win a trophy with us.”
