Aston Villa have announced the loan signing of Danny Drinkwater until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old Chelsea midfielder, who won the 2015/16 title with Leicester City, spent the first half of the campaign with Burnley.

"Danny was a key member of Leicester City’s title-winning team and has represented England so he is a vastly experienced player," Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith told the club's official website.

"He will strengthen our squad significantly."

He made one Premier League appearance for the Clarets, his 100th in the competition, in an injury-disrupted loan spell at Turf Moor that ended this month.

Drinkwater is Villa's first January signing and could make his Premier League debut for Smith's side when they host Manchester City on Sunday.
