Schlupp strikes to take 10-man Palace fifth

Crystal Palace v AFC Bournemouth

Despite Mamadou Sakho's 19th-minute dismissal Crystal Palace move fifth with 1-0 win over AFC Bournemouth

Jeffrey Schlupp scored for the second successive match to earn 10-man Crystal Palace a 1-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth.

Schlupp, a 29th-minute substitute for the injured Patrick van Aanholt, raced into the area to beat Aaron Ramsdale with 14 minutes remaining.

Palace had been reduced in number with less than 20 minutes played when defender Mamadou Sakho was dismissed for a high challenge on Adam Smith.

But the Cherries rarely troubled Vicente Guaita in the Crystal Palace goal and fell to a fourth successive defeat.

Palace are up to fifth with 21 points, five ahead of Eddie Howe's men, who lie 12th.
