Six players were nominated for the August award after starring in the opening month of the season.

Users selected their favourite on the EA SPORTS website. The votes of the public were then combined with those of the 20 club captains plus a panel of football experts to decide the winner.

EA SPORTS August 2019 shortlist

Sergio Aguero (MCI)

This season's top scorer netted in all four matches in August. He scored once against West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur before a double at AFC Bournemouth and two goals and an assist versus Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ashley Barnes (BUR)

The Burnley striker scored in his first three appearances of the season, getting a brace in the opening-weekend win over Southampton, a strike at Arsenal and a long-range goal at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Kevin De Bruyne (MCI)

Manchester City's Belgian registered a league-leading five assists in the first four Matchweeks, reaching 50 assists in 123 PL matches, a competition record. He also scored in the 4-0 win over Brighton.

Roberto Firmino (LIV)

Firmino was instrumental in a perfect start for leaders Liverpool, getting two assists in the month and scoring at Southampton and Burnley to become the first Brazilian to reach 50 goals in the Premier League.

Teemu Pukki (NOR)

Norwich City's striker enjoyed a dream start to his Premier League career. The Finn became only the 10th player to score in his first three appearances, netting in the season opener at Liverpool before getting a hat-trick v Newcastle United and a goal and an assist against Chelsea.

Raheem Sterling (MCI)

The Man City winger got off to a flying start, scoring the first opening-weekend hat-trick since Didier Drogba in 2010 in a 5-0 win at West Ham. He also found the net against Spurs and AFC Bournemouth.
