Southampton are aiming to bounce back from a Matchweek 1 loss and improve their record of winning only one of their last 20 opening home Premier League fixtures.

Liverpool will be in high spirits having followed up their opening-day victory over Norwich City by beating Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup in midweek.

Team news

Southampton have no injury concerns and have been boosted by new signing Kevin Danso joining the squad to train.

Liverpool have issues surrounding their goalkeeper selection.

Alisson (calf) remains sidelined and Adrian suffered a freak ankle injury after the UEFA Super Cup and will need to be assessed. Midfielder Naby Keita misses out due to a muscle strain.

Did you know?

Southampton have both scored and conceded in 13 of their last 14 Premier League home matches, with the exception being a 2-0 win against Fulham in February.

Against no side has Jurgen Klopp lost more often as Liverpool manager than Southampton. Saints have beaten Klopp’s side three times in 11 attempts in all competitions, while also drawing on three occasions.

Liverpool could equal their best ever Premier League winning run of 11 consecutive victories if they beat Southampton, with their previous sequence coming between February and April 2014 under Brendan Rodgers.

In 12 Premier League matches against opponents from the south coast (Brighton & Hove Albion, AFC Bournemouth and Southampton), Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has found the net in 11 of those, scoring 14 goals and assisting another three.
