The Scout's panel of experts discuss their go-to captains for 2019/20 Fantasy Premier League.

Sergio Aguero (MCI) £12.0m

The Argentinian served up 21 goals and 11 assists last term, making him one of only four forwards to produce double-digits for both statistics.

That all-round potential helped Aguero to a total of 201 points, the first time he has reached the 200-point mark since 2014/15.

And his average of 6.1 points per match was more than any other forward in FPL.

A look at the underlying statistics shows why he was so successful.

Worth the cost

Aguero's totals of 118 shots and 92 shots inside the penalty area both ranked among the top three players in 2018/19.

And his average of 118 minutes per goal was quicker than any regular starter.

At £12.0m, Aguero is the most expensive forward in FPL. Yet he has the opening schedule to justify that price tag.

Manchester City face only one of last season's top-six sides in the first 11 Gameweeks.

What the experts say

Chuck Booth (@ChuckBoothSport): Aguero is consistently one of the most lethal strikers. With a healthy Kevin De Bruyne (£9.5m) to tee him up, expect another run at the Cadbury Golden Boot, especially if VAR increases the number of Man City penalties.

Josh Landon (@hailcheaters): With Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) returning late to pre-season from the Copa America, Aguero's role as City's No 1 striker seems assured for the time being and in Man City's dangerous attack the starting striker is always captain material. Although he's still on an extended break, you would expect an experienced player like Aguero to be ready for Gameweek 1. Keep a close eye on how Pep Guardiola sets up his team for Sunday's Community Shield.

Lee Bonfield (@FPLFamily): Even at 31 years old, Aguero's statistics do not suggest any regression, and with VAR in the Premier League this season we might reasonably expect him to bag more penalties. He has been a trustworthy source of points season after season and is a sound FPL investment.

Tom (@WGTA_FPL): Aguero is a perennial FPL favourite. He has hit at least 20 goals a season for the last five seasons. Never underestimate his game-winning abilities.

Paul Gee (FPLPaulGee): Aguero is playing for the club who, no doubt about it, will score the most goals. I haven't seen that many teams with Aguero in it and Man City have a really good run of fixtures right up until Gameweek 11, which makes him great captain material.
