Eriksen strikes late as Spurs break Brighton hearts

Midfielder's goal boosts Tottenham Hotspur's top-four hopes and leaves Seagulls close to relegation zone

Christian Eriksen scored a late winner to strengthen Tottenham Hotspur’s hold on third place as they beat a spirited Brighton & Hove Albion side 1-0.

Eriksen collected a pass from Dele Alli and drilled a low shot into the corner with just two minutes of normal time remaining.

It had looked as though Spurs would be frustrated as Seagulls goalkeeper Mat Ryan and central defenders Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk produced superb performances to keep them at bay.

Race for top four

4 Spurs TOT 38 +28 71
5 Arsenal ARS 38 +22 70
6 Man Utd MUN 38 +11 66

But Eriksen's goal means Brighton remain only three points clear of third-from-bottom Cardiff City with three matches left each.

The victory puts Spurs three points ahead of Chelsea and four above Arsenal, who travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.
