Second-placed Liverpool are looking for a fourth successive Premier League victory but their hosts Southampton are also in strong form, targeting a fourth win from five matches.

Team news

Southampton striker Danny Ings is ineligible to play against his parent club but could be replaced by Shane Long, who is back in training, along with defender Jannik Vestergaard, and will have a late fitness test.

Mario Lemina is not yet ready to return for Saints as he builds up his fitness.

Jurgen Klopp has no fresh injury concerns and Virgil van Dijk is expected to be available after shaking off a knock sustained against Tottenham Hotspur.

Southampton are looking to win a third consecutive PL match for the first time since May 2016, when they won four in a row.

Saints have won five of their 10 PL matches against Liverpool at St Mary’s Stadium. They have only beaten Everton more often at the ground in the competition, with six wins.

Liverpool are aiming to secure a fourth successive league victory over Southampton for the first time in their history.

Mohamed Salah has scored in all three of his PL appearances against Southampton, netting four times. But he is without a goal in his last eight matches in all competitions, his longest run since a sequence of 10 matches with Roma in 2015/16.
