WHO'S GOING TO BE YOUR

MAN OF THE MATCH?

Report

Brentford returned to winning ways, beating Wolves 2-0 at Molineux Stadium thanks to a goal in each half.

Christian Norgaard and Ivan Toney were the scorers as the Bees kept their first clean sheet in 13 matches, moving them to 14th, six points clear of the relegation zone.

How the match unfolded

Both sides were unchanged from their respective fixtures in Matchweek 23.

In the opening minutes in-form Neal Maupay had two great chances to give Brentford the lead. The forward’s first shot was deflected wide from close range by Jose Sa. From the resulting corner, an unmarked Maupay headed low but the Wolves ‘keeper did well to get down and parry away.

The contest was end-to-end, with Pedro Neto bursting through on goal, but the Wolves attacker was unable to guide his shot past Mark Flekken.

At the other end, Mads Roerslev skied his rebound after the ball fell fortunately towards him at the back post.

Brentford eventually took the lead in the 35th minute through Norgaard, who powerfully headed in a near-post corner from January signing Sergio Reguilon.

Neto came close to equalising, heading down Pablo Sarabia’s cross, but again Flekken did well to get down quickly to palm the ball off the line and on to the post.

The hosts started the second half fast as Rayan Ait-Nouri released Neto, whose shot was deflected on to a post. In the 50th minute Craig Dawson glanced in a Neto cross after a corner, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Wolves continued to put pressure on Brentford’s back line, however, Gary O’Neil’s side couldn’t create a clear-cut chance, and were punished by Toney in the 77th minute. Vitaly Janelt crossed the ball towards the forward, who side-footed the ball back across goal to make it 2-0.

The loss means Wolves remain 10th on 32 points, but could drop to 11th if Chelsea win their game in hand.
