MAN OF THE MATCH?

Aston Villa hit Burnley's hopes of safety

Aston Villa eased to a 3-1 win at Turf Moor to hit Burnley's hopes of staying in the Premier League.

Danny Ings struck after only seven minutes, scoring for a fourth consecutive match against his former club.

Emiliano Buendia, who set up the opener, doubled the lead on 31 minutes from Lucas Digne's cutback.

Dwight McNeil had a chance to pull one back before half-time but shot straight at Emiliano Martinez.

Soon after the break Burnley lost James Tarkowski to injury and Ollie Watkins added a third with a diving header.

Substitute Maxwel Cornet scored a consolation goal in stoppage time for Burnley, who suffered a first defeat under Mike Jackson.

The Clarets remain 16th on 34 points, above Leeds United on goal difference and two places from the relegation zone, but having played two matches more than 18th-placed Everton.

Back-to-back wins lift Aston Villa to 11th on 43 points.
