Sam Allardyce claimed the first Premier League victory of his Crystal Palace reign at the sixth attempt thanks to headers from Scott Dann and Christian Benteke.
Benteke and James Tomkins both went close for Palace in the first half, while Junior Stanislas twice threatened for the hosts.
A minute after half-time, Puncheon crossed for Damien Delaney to flick on and Dann coolly headed inside the far post.
