WHO'S GOING TO BE YOUR

MAN OF THE MATCH?

Match report

An own-goal by Stoke City goalkeeper Shay Given from a missed penalty by Leighton Baines allowed Everton to edge victory at Goodison Park.

Ronald Koeman’s Everton had plenty of possession in the first half, but laboured to create clear opportunities, with recent signing Yannick Bolasie always a handful and Ross Barkley missing one chance.

Six minutes after the break Everton were awarded a penalty when Ashley Williams was fouled by Phil Bardsley.

Baines’s low shot was pushed on to a post by Given, but the ball richocheted off the goalkeeper's head into the net.

Barkley went close to doubling Everton’s lead towards the end, but Given saved his effort, and the Toffees duly sealed a narrow 1-0 victory.
