Jones at heart of Swansea promotion bid

Eight goals in 13 matches helped Swans reach Division Two play-offs

With the release of the 2016/17 fixtures for Premier League 2, we look at some of the stars of last season's competition.

Owain Jones was one of the brightest sparks in Swansea City's 2015/16 Under-21 Premier League campaign, although he was denied the chance to contribute to his side's promotion tilt.

The 19-year-old, who was joint top scorer during their regular league campaign with eight goals from 13 appearances, missed the Swans' Division Two play-off semi-final against Aston Villa after picking up an injury.

And without their star man, Swansea slipped to a 2-1 defeat at the Liberty Stadium.

However, Jones did have the consolation of helping his side win the FAW Youth Cup for a seventh successive season, when he returned from the sidelines to score twice in a 5-0 win over Connah's Quay.

It was the 16th time the Swans had won the competition - more than any other club.

Jones joined Swansea at the age of 10 and joined the Under-21 squad in the 2014/15 season, after producing 16 goals in 20 matches for the Under-18s.

He signed his first professional contract with the club - a two-year deal - in the summer of 2015, which preceded a promising campaign last time out.

Jones has also represented Wales at various youth levels, making his international U21 debut against Armenia last November.
