Managers in Fantasy Premier League will have TWO sets of chips again in 2026/27.
Just like last season, you will have a Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain and Bench Boost chip to use in each half of the campaign, meaning eight chips in total.
The first set of chips must be played before the Gameweek 19 deadline passes at 13:30 GMT on Saturday 2 January. They cannot be carried over into the second half of 2026/27.
The same chips will then be refreshed for the second half of the campaign. Only one chip can be played in a single Gameweek.
What does each chip do?
Triple Captain: Your captain points are tripled instead of doubled.
Wildcard: Make unlimited, permanent transfers (including those already made in the Gameweek).
Bench Boost: The points scored by your benched players are included in your total.
Free Hit: Make unlimited free transfers for a single Gameweek. At the next deadline, your squad is returned to how it was before those unlimited moves were made. The Free Hit can't be played in Gameweek 1, and if you use your first Free Hit chip in Gameweek 19, you can't then play the second one the following week in Gameweek 20.
What are the best strategies for using chips?
Many Fantasy managers like to save their second set of chips for Blank or Double Gameweeks.
In Blank Gameweeks, at least two of the Premier League clubs - usually more - will be without a league fixture, and their players will score zero points in Fantasy. Using a Free Hit can help navigate this and allow you to select 11 players who have a match in that Gameweek.
In Double Gameweeks, at least one of the Premier League clubs - again, usually more - has two league fixtures to contest, meaning extra opportunities for Fantasy points. These are typically popular Gameweeks for the Bench Boost and Triple Captain chips.
A Wildcard is often best saved for when your squad most needs an overhaul, for example if you have multiple players injured, suspended or not starting for their teams. However, it could also be used to target a particular set of fixtures for certain teams.
Many managers often use their first Wildcard quite early in the season to recruit players who have caught the eye during the first few weeks of the campaign. But it should always be played with a longer-term outlook in mind.
In the first half of the season, the Bench Boost chip could be played in Gameweek 1 or straight after a Wildcard, as managers will have unlimited transfers to build a 15-man squad who all have a good chance of earning points.
The first Triple Captain chip can be more effective when used on a big-hitting premium pick such as Manchester City's Erling Haaland or Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes when they are playing at home to a promoted club.
Early opportunities for Triple Captain chip this season
Haaland was the top-scoring player in Fantasy last season, amassing 239 points thanks to 27 goals and eight assists.
In Gameweek 6 at home to promoted Burnley last season, the Norwegian scored twice and supplied an assist to earn 16 points – his joint-best total of the entire campaign.
As the table below shows, Haaland plays at home to all three promoted clubs in the first half of 2026/27, facing Coventry City in Gameweek 3, Ipswich Town in Gameweek 7 and Hull City in Gameweek 16.
Fernandes, meanwhile, was the top-scoring player in home matches in Fantasy last season.
The Portuguese produced eight double-figure hauls across his 17 starts at Old Trafford, combining five goals with 12 assists to total 124 points.
Fernandes hosts two promoted clubs in the first half of 2026/27, facing Ipswich and Coventry in Gameweeks 2 and 14 respectively.
