Dowman becomes Premier League's youngest goalscorer EVER

Arsenal v Everton

Aged 16 years and 73 days, Arsenal star smashes the record after scoring in 2-0 win against Everton

Arsenal winger Max Dowman has made history after becoming the Premier League's youngest-ever goalscorer.

Aged 16 years and 73 days, Dowman came off the bench to score the Gunners' second goal in their 2-0 victory against Everton, beating previous record-holder James Vaughan by 197 days.

Dowman made a huge impact on the game after replacing midfielder Martin Zubimendi in the 74th minute.

Arsenal were on course to drop points before the teenager created the opening goal in the 89th minute.

His deep cross found Piero Hincapie at the back post and the defender diverted the ball across goal for Viktor Gyokeres to score a tap-in.

Then, with Everton chasing an equaliser and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford out of position after going up for a corner, Dowman made history.

The youngster raced past Vitalii Mykolenko to get to the loose ball before dribbling past Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and then running half the length of the pitch before finishing into an empty net.

Arteta: Dowman changed the game

Manager Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Dowman after the match, saying his impact was "not normal".

"It was a great moment, especially the way the goal builds up," he said. "We had 10 or 15 seconds to enjoy what was about to happen. It was magical. All the players, the crowd jumping. A beautiful day.

"It’s not only the goal he scored, he changed the game. Every time he got the ball. He made things happen and we looked more of a threat. To do that at this age in this context, with the pressure, the expectations to win the game, it’s just not normal."

"It’s incredible. You can see how he plays without fear, every time he gets the ball," Dowman's team-mate Gyokeres added.

"He takes the right decisions most of the time as well. Amazing player. A great goal for him and I’m so happy for him."
