With Newcastle and Forest's playoff ties drawn, we look at potential last-16 opponents for every Premier League side involved

UEFA's latest draws have been made, deciding who Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest will face in their playoff fixtures in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League respectively - and giving other Premier League clubs a glimpse at their potential future opponents in those competitions.

Newcastle will face Qarabag from Azerbaijan in the Champions League's playoff round. Eddie Howe's side will be away in the first leg on 17 or 18 February, with the return game at St James' Park on 24 or 25 February.

Forest have been drawn against Fenerbahce in the Europa League playoffs, following their 13th-place finish in the league phase. According to the fixtures on UEFA.com, Sean Dyche's team will be away in the first leg on 19 February and at home in the second leg on 26 February.

Here is all you need to know about the next stages of the Champions League and Europa League and the potential round-of-16 opponents for the eight Premier League clubs involved:

Champions League

While Newcastle dropped out of the automatic qualification spots in their last match, despite an impressive 1-1 away draw with the holders Paris Saint-Germain, the other five Premier League clubs in the Champions League progressed directly to the round of 16 by finishing in the league phase's top eight places.

Arsenal finished first in the table and were joined in going straight through by Liverpool (third), Tottenham Hotspur (fourth), Chelsea (sixth) and Manchester City (eighth).

Arsenal
League phase: 1st
Top scorer: Gabriel Martinelli (six goals)
Possible next opponents: Atalanta, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen or Olympiacos

Arsenal will play the winners of Atalanta v Borussia Dortmund or Bayer Leverkusen v Olympiacos. The Gunners have already beaten Olympiacos in this season's competition, winning 2-0 at Emirates Stadium in October.

Liverpool
League phase: 3rd
Top scorer: Dominik Szoboszlai (four)
Possible next opponents: Galatasaray, Juventus, Club Brugge or Atletico Madrid

Liverpool may have an opportunity to avenge a 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray in September, as the Turkish giants are one of four possible opponents for Arne Slot's side. The Reds could also face Club Brugge, Juventus or Atletico Madrid, whom they beat 3-2 in their first game of this season's league phase.

Spurs
League phase: 4th
Top scorer: Richarlison (seven)
Possible next opponents: Galatasaray, Juventus, Club Brugge or Atletico Madrid

Spurs have the same potential round-of-16 opponents as Liverpool. Regardless of who they are drawn against, Thomas Frank's team haven't played against any of those clubs this season.

Chelsea
League phase: 6th
Top scorer: Estevao and Joao Pedro (both three)
Possible next opponents: Newcastle, Qarabag, PSG or Monaco

Chelsea could have an all-Premier League tie against Newcastle in the round of 16. Alternatively, Liam Rosenior's team could face Qarabag (should they beat Newcastle), PSG or Monaco. The Blues already met Qarabag in this season's competition, drawing 2-2 in Azerbaijan.

Man City
League phase: 8th
Top scorer: Erling Haaland (seven)
Possible next opponents: Benfica, Real Madrid, Bodo/Glimt or Inter Milan

Man City could take on Real Madrid yet again after beating them 2-1 at the Bernabeu in December. The two clubs have met nine times in the last five seasons and on 15 occasions overall in the Champions League. A swift reunion with Bodo/Glimt, following City's 3-1 defeat in Norway in January, is also on the cards.

The other potential opponents for Pep Guardiola's side are Benfica, now coached by former Chelsea, Spurs and Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho, and Inter Milan, whom they defeated in the 2023 final.

Newcastle
League phase: 12th
Top scorer: Anthony Gordon (six)
Playoff opponent: Qarabag
Possible round-of-16 opponents: Chelsea or Barcelona

Should Newcastle win their playoff against Qarabag, they would face either Chelsea or Barcelona in the round of 16.

Europa League

While Forest have to navigate the playoffs, Aston Villa are through to the Europa League's round of 16 after finishing second in the league phase, on the same number of points as first-placed Lyon.

Aston Villa
League phase: 2nd
Top scorer: Donyell Malen (three)
Possible next opponents: Celta Vigo, PAOK, Lille or Red Star Belgrade

Villa could face the winners of Celta Vigo v PAOK or Lille v Red Star Belgrade in the round of 16.

Nott'm Forest
League phase: 13th
Top scorer: Igor Jesus (six)
Playoff opponent: Fenerbahce
Possible round-of-16 opponents: Real Betis or Midtjylland

If Forest beat Fenerbahce in the playoffs, Real Betis or Midtjylland will lie in wait in the round of 16.

When are the draws for the round of 16 in the Champions League and Europa League?

Both draws will be made on Friday 27 February, following the conclusion of the playoffs.
