Michael Carrick has been in charge of Manchester United for only four matches but the quality of elite managerial opposition who have lost to him or failed to get the better of him during that time, delivering three wins and a draw, is exceptional.
The Man Utd head coach added six-time Premier League champion Pep Guardiola to his list of vanquished opponents on Saturday, with a 2-0 win over Manchester City in his first match since returning to Old Trafford.
It continued Carrick's impressive record against managerial greats from his first stint at the club in 2021.
Carrick got the better of Unai Emery, now manager of Aston Villa, whose Villarreal team were beaten 2-0 in Spain in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Carrick also held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge when they were managed by the current England boss Thomas Tuchel, before beating Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, winning 3-2 in the Premier League in his final match before Ralf Rangnick took over at Old Trafford.
Now back for his second stint at Man Utd, Carrick has a chance to build on his impressive start and outfox Arteta again next weekend when his team travel to leaders Arsenal on Sunday.
