We round up the third-round matches on Sunday, with four Premier League teams going through

Football writer David Coverdale reviews Sunday's FA Cup third-round matches, with five Premier League clubs in action.

Derby County 1-3 Leeds

Leeds United produced a second-half comeback to see off Championship side Derby County at Pride Park Stadium.

Daniel Farke made eight changes from his Leeds team that dramatically lost 4-3 in the Premier League at Newcastle United in midweek.

And the German must have feared his selection gamble had backfired when Leeds fell behind to Ben Brereton Diaz’s 35th-minute strike, just two minutes after Joel Piroe’s penalty was saved by Derby goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom.

However, the visitors rallied after the break, with Wilfried Gnonto firing them level in the 55th minute with his first goal in 14 appearances this season, before Ao Tanaka gave them the lead four minutes later.

James Justin – who was brought on at half-time for Sebastiaan Bornauw – then sealed Leeds’ passage into the FA Cup fourth round, making it 3-1 in the third minute of stoppage time.

Portsmouth 1-4 Arsenal

Gabriel Martinelli netted his first senior hat-trick as Premier League leaders Arsenal recovered from an early scare to ease past Portsmouth.

A major FA Cup upset was briefly on the cards when Colby Bishop gave Championship strugglers Pompey a shock lead at Fratton Park after only three minutes.

But Arsenal – who made 10 changes from the goalless draw against Liverpool – levelled just five minutes later.

Christian Norgaard thought he had scored his first Gunners goal, but the ball had already gone in off Pompey’s Andre Dozzell after a scramble in the box following Eberechi Eze’s corner.

Another Arsenal corner led to their second, with Martinelli flicking in Noni Madueke’s set piece at the near post.

Madueke then struck a penalty wide, but Martinelli poked in the Gunners’ third from Gabriel Jesus’ low cross.

The Brazilian sealed his maiden Arsenal hat-trick in the 72nd minute with another header from a Madueke corner, before 16-year-old Marli Salmon was brought off the bench to become the youngest player to feature for the Gunners in the FA Cup.

West Ham 2-1 QPR (aet)

Nuno Espirito Santo was left breathing a sigh of relief after new signing Valentín Castellano’s extra-time header saw West Ham United squeeze past Queens Park Rangers.

Nuno’s men came into this FA Cup tie at London Stadium off the back of a bruising midweek defeat to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest, which saw them slip seven points adrift of Premier League safety.

And the Hammers were in danger of suffering more misery when Richard Kone equalised for Championship side QPR in the 65th minute, after Crysencio Summerville had fired the hosts in front in first-half stoppage time with his first goal of the season.

However, Argentine forward Castellanos – who joined West Ham from Lazio on Monday – came to his new club's rescue when he brilliantly headed in Summerville’s cross in the eighth minute of extra-time.

It was the first time the Hammers have tasted victory since they beat Burnley in the Premier League in November.

Man Utd 1-2 Brighton

Danny Welbeck piled pain on his former team-mate Darren Fletcher as Brighton & Hove Albion knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup.

Fletcher was taking charge of his second game as Man Utd’s caretaker manager following the departure of Ruben Amorim on Monday.

However, the former Red Devils midfielder's first experience in the Old Trafford dugout got off to a bad start when Brajan Gruda put Brighton ahead in the 12th minute.

The Seagulls then doubled their advantage after 64 minutes as Welbeck powered into the top corner from just inside the box after Gruda’s ball.

It was the eighth time Welbeck has scored against Man Utd since leaving his boyhood club in 2014 – and the second time this season.

With five minutes to go, Benjamin Sesko headed in Bruno Fernandes' corner to give Fletcher's team hope.

But after 18-year-old substitute Shea Lacey was sent off for two yellow cards, Brighton held on to beat Man Utd in the FA Cup for the first time.
