Darren Fletcher in charge for Man Utd's next match

Manchester United have confirmed that Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team for their Premier League match at Burnley on Wednesday, after the club announced that head coach Ruben Amorim left on Monday.

Fletcher spent 13 years at Man Utd as a player, winning several major honours including five Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League. He later played for West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City in the top flight, making an overall total of 341 Premier League appearances.

This season, the former Scotland midfielder has been in charge of the club's Under-18 side, overseeing 14 matches in the Under-18 Premier League and one FA Youth Cup tie.

Fletcher has held a variety of roles at the club since October 2020, including technical director and first-team coach.

He is the father of twins Jack and Tyler, who are both in Man Utd's first-team squad and were unused substitutes in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Leeds United.

Fletcher is the fifth Man Utd interim manager who used to play for the club under Sir Alex Ferguson. The others were Ryan GiggsOle Gunnar SolskjaerMichael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

It remains to be seen how many matches Fletcher will be in charge for, with their next game after Burnley being their home FA Cup tie against Brighton & Hove Albion. They also have Premier League encounters against local rivals Manchester City, as well as Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur in the next month.
