The Premier League guarantees a thrilling spectacle, with the 2025 calendar year continuing to showcase the unpredictability of England’s top flight.
Who came out on top?
Liverpool may have claimed the 2024/25 title, but it is Arsenal who have finished the year on top. Across 39 matches in 2025, the Gunners amassed 83 points.
Mikel Arteta's side displayed their credentials as one of the league's most well-rounded outfits, conceding just 30 goals (fewest among clubs with at least 37 matches) and scoring 71 (joint-second highest).
Manchester City finished just behind behind Arsenal in 2025, collecting 80 points from 37 matches - a clear improvement from their third-place finish at the end of 2024.
Aston Villa, after ending the 2024/25 campaign in sixth and starting this season slowly, enjoyed a remarkable year. Unai Emery's side wrapped up 2025 in third place with 76 points.
Liverpool, despite winning a 20th league title in May, struggled throughout 2025. A difficult start to the new campaign saw the Reds finish the year fourth, conceding 50 goals - the joint-most among the top seven teams.
Successful year for Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Sunderland
Further down the table, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Sunderland all can all reflect on a successful 2025.
Newcastle, after qualifying for this season's UEFA Champions League with a fifth-place finish in 2024/25, are in sixth at the end of the year. They also celebrated their first trophy in 56 years with a 2-1 EFL Cup final victory over Liverpool in March.
Crystal Palace soared to seventh under Oliver Glasner, enjoying their first-ever European campaign after winning both the FA Cup and Community Shield.
Although near the bottom, Sunderland’s 28 points from 19 matches put them just one point behind Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have played 38 matches.
Who struggled in 2025?
The newly promoted sides have found life in the Premier League unforgiving, with Leeds United and Burnley stuck near the foot of the table.
Meanwhile, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have also endured a tough year, with both sides ranked 12th and 15th respectively.
