Best goalkeeper in the world
Donnarumma's individual triumph was announced at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday.
The accolade recognises the Italian's performances between 11 August 2024 and 2 August 2025, when he played for French club Paris Saint-Germain.
During that period, Donnarumma helped PSG to win the UEFA Champions League and a domestic treble of Ligue 1, the French Cup and Champions Trophy, and to reach the FIFA Club World Cup final where they were defeated by Chelsea.
Donnarumma was voted the best goalkeeper in the world by a panel of men’s international team coaches and captains, football journalists and fans.
The other nominees were Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois, Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez, Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer, Arsenal’s David Raya, Inter Milan's Yann Sommer and Barcelona's Wojciech Szczesny.
"It is a great honour to win this prestigious award and I would like to thank everybody that voted for me," Donnarumma told the official website of Man City, the club he joined on 1 September - the final day of the summer transfer window.
"I feel extremely proud to have been named as the best in the world, ahead of such wonderful goalkeepers who I have great respect and admiration for.
"It was an incredible year, one that will live long in my memory, and it’s touching to be recognised for my role in the success achieved over that period.
"I will truly appreciate this acknowledgement and look ahead now to achieving more success with my new club, Manchester City."
Donnarumma is set to make his 14th Premier League appearance on Saturday, when Man City host West Ham United.
