FPL expert picks their Challenge team to beat musician Tays

Tom Johnson selects his six-a-side team as all winning goals score double points

This week’s FPL Challenge is called Winning Feeling. It marks the final Gameweek of Coca-Cola and FPL Challenge teaming up for the “Beat The Icon” event. Every week there is a different challenge set by football legends, pundits and top creators - and Fantasy managers being invited to try to beat them, continuing with Tays in Gameweek 10.

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, managers will be able to go head-to-head with Tays by scanning the QR code on any bottle or can of Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and be in with a chance to win prizes, including Premier League match tickets.

Managers outside the UK will still be able to take part in the weekly challenges as usual, but will not be eligible to enter the head-to-head element and win prizes.

This time around, winning goals are awarded double points. There is a limit of one player per club, with managers selecting a 6-a-side team using an unlimited budget.

Here, FPL expert Tom Johnson reveals his team and explains his thinking, to help managers pick their own line-ups.

Goalkeepers

Barring a miracle, the one position where winning goals won't relevant is in goal. Focusing purely on clean sheet and save-point potential, I've opted for Bernd Leno of Fulham.

No team has created fewer big chances, which are situations where the player is expected to score in, than the German's Gameweek 10 opponents Wolverhampton Wanderers so far this season. Vitor Pereira's side average less than a goal-a-game in 2025/26. Furthermore, Leno has also picked up a save point in seven of his nine starts.

Robin Roefs and David Raya were tempting, but with only one player allowed per club, I've used my Sunderland and Arsenal slots elsewhere in my team.

Defender

Only four defenders have registered three big chances this season, one of those is Dan Ballard. The Sunderland centre-back was on the scoresheet in Gameweek 1, one of two double-digit hauls this campaign.

As well as his promising goal threat, Ballard has returned defensive contribution points three times in four starts and finished just one short of the threshold in Gameweek 9 against Chelsea.

A clean sheet could also be on the cards with the Black Cats ranking second-best for goals conceded (7) since their return to the top flight.

Midfielder

The in-form Bryan Mbeumo takes the solitary midfield spot in my 1-1-3 formation. Following his brace last time out against Brighton & Hove Albion and subsequent 15-point haul, the Cameroon international sits second in the midfielder points-standings, with 51.

Mbeumo's underlying data is positive, with no other midfielder registering a higher non-penalty Expected Goal Involvement (xGI) than his tally of 4.93. Manchester United's Gameweek 10 opponents, Nottingham Forest, have conceded the most big chances of any team bar one and fell to defeat in Sean Dyche's first league match in charge.

Forwards

With winning goals the aim of the Challenge, I've opted for three forwards to try and benefit from the double points on offer.

The selection of Erling Haaland needs little justification. The Norwegian has scored an incredible 11 goals in nine matches and averages over nine points-per-game. Encouragingly, he has scored the winning goal on four occasions already this season ahead of a match with AFC Bournemouth this weekend.

Jean-Philippe Mateta sits second only to Haaland for big chances with 15, including 11 in the last four Gameweeks. The Frenchman demonstrated his explosiveness in Gameweek 8 with a hat-trick against Bournemouth and managed to net the opening goal against Aston Villa in August.

Crystal Palace's attack looks primed for more goals, the Eagles rank top for Expected Goals (xG) and big chances among all teams and scored three times at Anfield in midweek.

Finally, no team has a higher Expected Goals Against (xGA) than Burnley, and with that in mind, I've completed my six-a-side team with Viktor Gyokeres. While the Arsenal striker has has scored just three times in the league since signing in the summer, his goals have come against bottom-half sides Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.

Scott Parker's side will give-up plenty of chances and if Gyokeres can notch the opening goal, I expect that to be the winning goal, considering Arsenal's unbeatable defensive record.
