Following two nights of UEFA Champions League action, the continental football feast continues on Thursday with a full round of fixtures in Europe's other club competitions, the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League.
With Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace all involved, here is all you need to know about the Premier League trio’s matches.
UEFA Europa League
Go Ahead Eagles v Aston Villa
Thursday 23 October, 17:45 (BST)
The season is little more than two months old, but already it can neatly be split in two as far as Aston Villa are concerned.
Unai Emery’s side looked a shadow of their former selves when going six matches without a win at the start of the campaign. But they have since been a team transformed, emerging victorious in all five of their following matches across all competitions.
The visit of Bologna in the Europa League started the current run, with Villa winning 1-0. A 2-0 victory at Feyenoord in their last European fixture, means they currently sit third in the standings as one of seven teams with maximum points.
They return to the Netherlands off the back of a fine triumph at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, ready to take on a Go Ahead Eagles side making their first ever appearance in the main stages of a major European competition, gained after winning the KNVB Cup last season.
The Dutch club began their Europa League campaign with defeat against FCSB, before travelling to Panathinaikos and winning 2-1 last time out.
This is only their fifth season back in the Dutch top flight, and they currently sit 12th and have not won any of their last three league outings, losing 2-1 to PSV on Saturday.
Nottingham Forest v Porto
Thursday 23 October, 20:00 (BST)
That Ange Postecoglou will not be in charge for this tie would have been unthinkable when he was appointed as Nottingham Forest head coach in early September.
However, a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea was sufficient for the Australian to be relieved of his duties, suffering the ignominy of the second-shortest ever Premier League tenure of just 39 days.
In his place comes former Watford, Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche. His first match in charge will mark a personal return to European competition after previously leading Burnley to defeat in the 2018/19 Europa League play-off round.
Forest have endured a difficult campaign so far, failing to pick up a win since the opening day of the season. Their much-anticipated European return began with a respectable draw at Real Betis, but they were then shocked by Danish side Midtjylland at the City Ground.
Bouncing back against one of the competition’s biggest clubs will be no easy task. Porto not only have two wins from their opening two European games, but are yet to lose a single fixture in any competition this season.
The only blemish on their perfect tally came with a goalless draw against Benfica in their last Primeira Liga match, and their lead at the top of the domestic table stands at three points.
Spanish forward Samu Aghehowa has eight goals in nine appearances this season, including an 11-minute hat-trick in cup competition last time out.
UEFA Conference League
Crystal Palace v AEK Larnaca
Thursday 23 October, 20:00 (BST)
Anticipation is high for Crystal Palace’s first major European home match in the club’s history, and only the second of more than 500 European fixtures in London to take place south of the River Thames (after Millwall’s 1-1 draw with Ferencvaros in the 2004/05 UEFA Cup first round).
Oliver Glasner’s Palace have enjoyed a fine start to the season, only seeing their 19-match unbeaten run ended just before the international break.
That 2-1 loss at Everton remains the sole blot on their copybook, having twice come from behind to secure a battling 3-3 draw against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, with Jean-Philippe Mateta scoring a hat-trick.
Palace beat Dynamo Kyiv 2-0 in their opening Conference League match and now welcome Cypriot Cup winners AEK Larnaca, who thrashed AZ Alkmaar 4-0 in their first European fixture.
In that match, David Gerasimou come off the bench for AEK Larnaca to become the youngest player ever to feature in a major men’s European club competition, aged 15 years and 334 days.
