Shearer's Team of the Week: 'Mateta's in the form of his life'

Premier League's record goalscorer names Palace's hat-trick hero in his best XI of Matchweek 8

AFC Bournemouth had no answer to Crystal Palace centre-forward Jean-Philippe Mateta on Saturday as the France international continued his superb form with a stunning hat-trick in a 3-3 thriller at Selhurst Park.

Palace were twice facing defeat at 2-0 and then 3-2 down but, inspired by their No 14, they battled back in sensational style to earn a point against a formidable AFC Bournemouth team who would have temporarily gone top of the table with a win.

Alan Shearer, the Premier League's record goalscorer and Hall of Fame inductee, was highly impressed by Mateta's heroics, which took his season's tally to five goals in eight starts, naming him in his Team of the Week.

Martin Dubravka (Burnley)
"Immense. Made some brilliant saves, as he has done all season, to keep a clean sheet and help Burnley earn a vital win against Leeds."

Kyle Walker (Burnley)
"Produced a wonderful cross for the opener and was solid all afternoon. He's proving to be an outstanding signing for Burnley."

Josh Acheampong (Chelsea)
"Scored the opener - his first goal for Chelsea - and played a big part in his team's first away clean sheet of the season. He's getting better with every game."

Harry Maguire (Man Utd)
"The big man came up with another big goal in a huge performance. An absolute giant in both boxes. Defended superbly to keep Liverpool's attack at bay and then produced a towering header to seal a memorable win at Anfield."

Lucas Digne (Aston Villa)
"Kept Spurs' in-form winger Mohammed Kudus quiet and was a constant outlet on the left channel."

Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)
"What a way to open your account for the season! An outstanding goal. He was just too hot for Spurs to handle."

Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd)
"A real captain's performance. He never stopped working in the middle, and who else would you have expected to supply such an incredible ball for Maguire's winner?"

Danny Welbeck (Brighton)
"There's no stopping him at the moment! Two goals and a fantastic all-round display to help Brighton beat Newcastle."

Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace)
"He's in the form of his life right now. Following hot on the heels of his first international goal for France, his brilliant hat-trick inspired Palace's comeback from 2-0 and 3-2 down against a brilliant Bournemouth team who are flying high in third place."

Erling Haaland (Man City)
"Another week and another couple of goals, taking him to 11 for the season. Only some great saves by Jordan Pickford denied him even more."

Junior Kroupi (Bournemouth)
"What a way to mark your full Premier League debut! Scored twice, showing a real striker's instinct to react quickly for both goals."

Manager: Ruben Amorim (Man Utd)
"Masterminded an outstanding win at the home of the champions to complete back-to-back wins for the first time since he took charge at Man Utd."
