The "curse" of the most-bought player has officially returned to Fantasy Premier League.
The sixth most-transferred in player of all-time, Jack Grealish (£6.8m) disappointed his 1.76million new owners with a two-point return in Everton's goalless draw with Aston Villa.
The No 1 transfer target has now blanked in each of the last three Gameweeks, with Grealish following on from Antoine Semenyo (£7.5m) in Gameweek 3 and Tijjani Reijnders (£5.7m) in Gameweek 2.
Indeed, with managers selecting their squads in Gameweek 1 and only able to make their first transfers from Gameweek 2, the most-bought player of the round has yet to produce a return this season.
Most-bought players in each Gameweek
Player | Gameweek | Transferred in by | Pts |
---|---|---|---|
Grealish | 4 | 1,759,494 | 2 |
Semenyo | 3 | 1,269,464 | 2 |
Reijnders | 2 | 1,270,360 | 2 |
It wasn't for a lack of trying on Grealish's part, however.
The midfielder, who celebrated his 30th birthday during the international break, created a match-high five chances for his team-mates, including a big chance - a situation where a player is expected to score.
Owned by 21.5 per cent of Fantasy bosses, he now faces a daunting trip to Liverpool in Gameweek 5, before West Ham United visit the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Gameweek 6.
Grealish is not the only player to fail to live up to expectations when recruited en masse. Of the top six Gameweek transfers of all time (below), only half of them have produced immediate returns.
