Postecoglou replaces Nuno as Nottingham Forest head coach

Former Spurs boss appointed at the City Ground, 13 hours after Portuguese's exit was confirmed

Nottingham Forest have announced the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as head coach, following the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo late on Monday night.

Postecoglou has been hired three months after he left Tottenham Hotspur, having just claimed the UEFA Europa League trophy.

"We are bringing a coach to the Club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies," Evangelos Marinakis, Forest's owner, told the club website.

"His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions."

Postecoglou's first match in charge of Forest is on Saturday 13 September, when they travel to Arsenal.

Nuno's impact at Forest

Appointed in December 2023, Nuno arrived at Forest with the remit of retaining their Premier League status. Forest had won only once in 13 matches, taking a single point in their last six fixtures and were 17th.

Nuno won two of his first three matches in charge, including 3-1 away at Newcastle United and a 2-1 victory at home to Manchester United.

After helping the club stay up, Nuno guided Forest to seventh in the Premier League in 2024/25 to ensure European football returned to the City Ground for the first time since 1996.

During his time in charge of Forest, Nuno won two Barclays Manager of the Month awards, for October and December 2024.

Nuno had signed a new three-year deal in June, but in a recent press conference he went on to say his relationship with Marinakis had changed.

"I always had a very good relationship with the owner, last season was very close," he said. "This season, not so well."
