Newcastle United have completed the signing of Yoane Wissa from Brentford.

Days after bringing in Nick Woltemade from German side Stuttgart, Newcastle have bolstered their attacking options again with Wissa's move to St James' Park.

The 28-year-old striker will wear the No 9 shirt and is the eighth player to join the Magpies in the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Antonito CorderoAnthony ElangaAaron Ramsdale (loan), Seung-soo ParkMalick Thiaw, Jacob Ramsey and Woltemade.

“I’m very, very excited to put on the black and white shirt. I’ve got dreams, I’ve got faith, and now I will do my best to make it all happen. I can’t wait to get started,” Wissa said in his first Newcastle interview.

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe added: “Yoane is a player who we have admired for some time and we’re delighted to have him on board.

“He brings proven Premier League quality, demonstrated not only by his goalscoring output but also the crucial work he does for the team.

“Yoane’s style of play will excite our supporters and complement our style of play - he has pace, power and an excellent work rate. He immediately makes us stronger.”

Wissa's career so far

Wissa began his career in France, where he played for five different clubs.

He started out with LB Chateauroux in 2015, before spells at Angers SCO, Stade Lavallois, AC Ajaccio and FC Lorient.

With Lorient, Wissa scored 37 times and provided 16 assists in 128 appearances across two-and-a-half seasons.

Brentford then came calling in the summer of 2021, ahead of the club's first-ever Premier League season.

Wissa played a huge part in helping the Bees establish themselves in the top flight, and scored 49 goals in 149 appearances across all competitions.

Nineteen of his 45 goals in the Premier League came last season, as Wissa finished sixth in the race for the Golden Boot.

When could Wissa first play for Newcastle?

Newcastle fans will have to wait until after the international break to see their new forward in action; their next fixture is at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 13 September.
