More than 1.88million Fantasy Premier League managers are celebrating their decision to captain Joao Pedro (£7.6m) as the Brazilian got an attacking return for the second successive Gameweek.
Joao Pedro scored in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Fulham and claimed the maximum three bonus for a nine-point return, or 18 with the armband - but it could have been even better.
When Chelsea were awarded a second-half penalty - and with Cole Palmer (£10.4m) and Liam Delap (£6.4m) not on the pitch - Joao Pedro's backers would have been disappointed that he didn't step up to take it. Instead, it was Enzo Fernandez (£6.5m) who converted from 12 yards.
Nonetheless, it was an impressive all-round performance from Joao Pedro, who racked up 10 defensive contributions, just short of the threshold of 12 needed for forwards to earn two extra Fantasy points. He also made a goalline clearance, helping him top the bonus points.
It's the first time he has featured among the top three captains in a Gameweek. Indeed, more people have captained the Chelsea forward in Gameweek 3 than across the whole of last season combined.
Top five captains in Gameweek 3
Player | Captained by | Pts |
---|---|---|
Haaland | 2,222,171 | 9 |
Salah | 1,981,845 | 3 |
Joao Pedro | 1,879,895 | 9 |
Wood | 1,056,262 | 2 |
Fernandes | 517,744 | 10 |
Elsewhere, Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m) made amends following his penalty miss at Fulham in the last round of matches.
Captained by more than 517,000 FPL managers, Fernandes converted a spot-kick in stoppage time to win a dramatic encounter at Old Trafford as Manchester United beat Burnley 3-2.
Fernandes delivered a 20-point captain haul, having also picked up two defensive contribution points for the second consecutive game.
Contrasting fortunes for Haaland and Salah
Erling Haaland (£14.1m) was the No 1 captain choice for the first time this season, pushing Mohamed Salah (£14.5m) into second place.
The Manchester City star justified that faith by scoring in City's 2-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Salah, however, blanked for the first time this season in Liverpool's 1-0 win over Arsenal.
Chris Wood (£7.7m) also failed to produce a goal or an assist as Nottingham Forest fell to a surprise 3-0 home defeat to West Ham United.
