Newcastle United have completed the signing of 6ft 6in striker Nick Woltemade from Bundesliga side Stuttgart in a club-record deal.
Woltemade, 23, will wear the No 27 shirt and is Newcastle's seventh acquisition of the summer transfer window, joining Antonito Cordero, Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale (loan), Seung-soo Park, Malick Thiaw, and most recently, Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa.
His arrival ends a long search by Eddie Howe to boost Newcastle's attacking options following the departure of Callum Wilson and ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of last season's top scorer, Alexander Isak, who has not featured for the Magpies this season and media reports suggest remains a target for Liverpool.
“I’m really happy to be at this amazing club. From the first contact, I felt like the club really wanted me and had big plans for me,” Woltemade said in his first Newcastle interview.
“I know the stadium from watching games on television - it looks amazing and I know the atmosphere is crazy. I’m really excited to play and start scoring goals here.”
Head coach Howe added: “He’s strong in a lot of areas - he has great technical ability and has proven himself to be a real threat in one of Europe’s top leagues - but he’s also still at an age where he has plenty of room to develop and grow here.”
Woltemade's career so far
Born in Bremen, Germany, Woltemade started his career with local side TS Woltmershausen as a youngster before signing for Werder Bremen.
Woltemade became Bremen's youngest-ever player when he made his Bundesliga debut aged 17 in an away match at Augsburg in 2019/20.
A spell on loan at third tier Elversberg followed, and he scored 10 goals as the club won promotion to Bundesliga 2 in 2022.
Woltemade returned to Brenan for the following campaign, netting twice in 30 Bundesliga matches before moving to Stuttgart on a free last summer, where he netted 12 league goals in the 2024/25 campaign, and 17 times across all competitions, including the opener in the German Cup final as he won the first major trophy of his career.
Capped twice by Germany at senior level, Woltemade shone at this summer's UEFA European Under-21 Championship, where he finished as the tournament's top-scorer with six goals as Germany came up just short in the final.
