Newcastle sign Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa

Midfielder becomes sixth addition to Eddie Howe's squad in this summer transfer window

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of midfielder Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old becomes the sixth signing for Eddie Howe's side in this summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Antonio Cordero, Anthony Elanga, Seung-soo Park, Malick Thiaw and, on loan, Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsey, who will wear the No 41 shirt for Newcastle, told the club's official website: "This is a big move for me, but as soon as I knew the gaffer [Howe] was interested and really liked me, it didn’t take much time to decide.

"His track record of developing players, especially those who have gone on to become internationals here, speaks for itself."

Ramsey arrives to strengthen a Magpies midfield that already features Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, and Sandro Tonali, who made 38, 29, and 28 Premier League starts respectively last season, as well as Joe Willock and promising youngster Lewis Miley.

Ramsey’s career so far

Born in Birmingham, Ramsey joined Villa’s academy at the age of six, progressing through the ranks before making his senior debut in September 2020 in the EFL Cup.

Later that month, he made his Premier League debut as a substitute in a 3–0 away win at Fulham.

Across his time at Villa, Ramsey made 136 Premier League appearances, scoring 14 goals and registering 12 assists.

Internationally, Ramsey has represented England at youth level from U18s through to U21s.

When could Ramsey first feature for Newcastle?

Ramsey could make his first appearance in black and white when Newcastle host Liverpool in their second Premier League match of the season, on Monday 25 August. The Magpies were held 0-0 at Villa in their opening fixture on Saturday.
