Man Utd sign forward Sesko from RB Leipzig

Slovenian forward becomes fourth summer arrival at Old Trafford

Manchester United have completed the signing of forward Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

The 22-year-old Slovenia international is the fourth summer arrival at Old Trafford, following the addition of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Paraguayan full-back Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

"He's really young, he's good in the air, he's good running the channels, he's good on the ball," said United head coach Ruben Amorim. "He has great potential. I think he can improve a lot."

Sesko himself was excited for what the future would hold for him at Old Trafford.

“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special but what really excites me is the future," Sesko told the club's official website. “When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon."

Sesko will bolster Amorim’s attacking options alongside Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Sesko’s career so far

Sesko was born in Radece, Slovenia, on 31 May 2003. His first professional contract was with Red Bull Salzburg in June 2019 and he made his debut in January 2021.

During his time with the Austrian club, Sesko made 79 appearances and scored 29 goals.

Sesko moved to RB Leipzig in July 2023 and enjoyed two impressive seasons in the Bundesliga. Overall, he scored 39 times in 87 matches in all competitions, making him the under-23 player with the most goals in the major European leagues since August 2023.

Since his international debut in 2021, Sesko has won 41 caps for Slovenia and scored 16 goals.

Standing 6ft 5in, Sesko’s technical ability, powerful shot and physical style have led to comparisons with former Man Utd striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

'World-class potential'

“Benjamin possesses a rare combination of electrifying pace and the ability to physically dominate defenders, making him one of the most exceptional young talents in world football," United's director of football Jason Wilcox told manutd.com.

“We have followed Benjamin’s career closely; all of our data analysis and research concluded that he has the required qualities and personality to thrive at Manchester United.

"Working under the guidance of Ruben and our excellent performance team, Benjamin is joining the perfect environment to support him to reach his world-class potential."

The Red Devils begin their Premier League campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday 17 August.
