Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris signs new contract

Frenchman agrees deal to keep him at the club until 2028, after guiding them back to the Premier League

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has signed a new contract until the summer of 2028.

The Frenchman, who was appointed in June 2024, has agreed to a new deal after overseeing the club's return to the Premier League for the first time since 2016/17.

“The connection I have with the staff, players, and supporters has been natural, and we shared many great moments together,” Le Bris said on Sunderland's website.

“The collective ambition is there to see and now, there is a desire to become stronger. I can feel the energy and intent to push forward, and we need that in the next challenges we will face. In every part of the organisation, everyone has their own part to play, and we are all aligned.”

Le Bris' time at Sunderland so far

Following his departure from French club Lorient last summer, Le Bris made a superb start to his time at Sunderland, as he helped them to nine wins from their opening 12 matches.

Le Bris was named Championship Manager of the Month in August and October.

After finishing the season in fourth, he guided the club to playoff wins against Coventry City and Sheffield United to secure Sunderland's return to the Premier League.

The club have brought in Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo, Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra, Granit Xhaka and Robin Roefs.

Sunderland begin their 2025/26 Premier League campaign at home to West Ham United on 16 August.
