Spurs sign midfielder Xavi Simons from Leipzig

Netherlands international becomes Spurs' eighth signing of the summer

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.

The 22-year-old Netherlands international becomes Spurs' eighth addition of the summer transfer window following the arrival of Luka Vuskovic, Kevin Danso, Mathys Tel, Kota Takai, Max McFadden, Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha β€” the latter joined the club on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich.

Simons told Spurs' official website: "I've been dreaming of this for a long time. It's a great club and when I met the head coach I knew straight away that this was the right place for me."

Thomas Frank, Spurs' head coach, added: "I’m really pleased we have brought Xavi in - he is a great addition to the squad. He is still young; however, he already has good experience and, over the past few years, has played a lot of games at the top level."

Spurs have reportedly pipped Chelsea to Simons' signature, with media reports suggesting the Blues held talks with Leipzig over a move for the attacking midfielder earlier this summer.

Chelsea are now being heavily linked with a move for Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho.

Simons' career so far

Born in 2003 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Simons is the son of former professional footballer Regillio Simons.

He joined Barcelona’s La Masia academy aged seven, progressing through the ranks before making a move to Paris Saint-Germain when he was 16-years-old.

Simons made his senior debut for the French side in February 2021 aged just 17, breaking into a first-team squad boasting world-class players including Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar.

In search of regular first-team football, Simons signed for PSV Eindhoven, starting every Eredivisie match in 2022/23. He delivered 27 goal involvements, finishing as the league’s joint-top scorer with 19 goals, prompting PSG to re-sign the midfielder before loaning him to RB Leipzig.

The Dutchman enjoyed a successful spell in the Bundesliga, scoring 10 goals and providing 13 assists in 2023/24. His loan was extended for 2024/25, where he continued to impress with 11 goals and eight assists across 33 matches, before making the move permanent in January this year.
