With Premier League clubs making major improvements to their squads already this summer, football writer Ben Bloom examines the best acquisitions across the league so far.
Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig to Manchester United)
With Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha already in place as the twin No 10s, the arrival of Benjamin Sesko completes a brand-new Man Utd front-line.
The 22-year-old striker hit 21 goals in all competitions for RB Leipzig last season, finishing with 39 in 87 appearances overall for the German club.
At 6ft 5in, Sesko offers a dominant aerial presence, while his pace, movement and sharp finishing suit Amorim's fluid attack.
Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting to Arsenal)
Having made do without a proper No 9 for some time, Arsenal have splashed their cash to bring in Viktor Gyokeres, a player who has taken a roundabout route to the club.
He failed to make the grade at Brighton & Hove Albion, but his recent goalscoring record at Sporting was extraordinary, bagging 29 and then 39 goals in his two Primeira Liga campaigns.
Arsenal will be hoping his intimidating physicality does the job now back in England’s top flight.
Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool)
As the sole Premier League summer signing to reportedly cost a nine-figure sum, Liverpool’s acquisition of Wirtz is certain to catch the eye.
Over the past couple of seasons, the German has developed a reputation as one of the finest young players in the world, steadily increasing his attacking output in the Bundesliga.
The 22-year-old is likely to play behind a central striker (perhaps fellow new boy Hugo Ekitike) although Wirtz could also be deployed out wide or as a false nine.
Rayan Cherki (Lyon to Man City)
Last season, Cherki created 125 chances in all competitions for Lyon, a tally bettered only by Raphinha and Bruno Fernandes across Europe’s top five leagues.
The 21-year-old Frenchman possesses an abundance of skill and creativity, and could play from the right or in a more central role for Pep Guardiola’s side. There is no shortage of competition for places in those positions, but Cherki’s ceiling could be very high.
Matheus Cunha (Wolves to Man Utd)
One of two major attacking signings (alongside Bryan Mbeumo) that Manchester United have made this summer, Cunha looks an ideal fit for Ruben Amorim.
The Brazilian, 26, was predominantly deployed in a left-sided attacking position at Wolves, where he was their biggest offensive threat.
His arrival might mean Bruno Fernandes drops deeper, but if it gets things happening in the final third, United fans will be elated.
Joao Pedro (Brighton to Chelsea)
The latest in a steady line of players to move from Brighton to Chelsea for big money, Joao Pedro is one of the Premier League’s most watchable players, scoring 10 goals in just 27 league games last season.
Extremely versatile, the 23-year-old can play on the wing, lead the line, operate as a second striker or run things as a No 10. He joins fellow new boys Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens in providing Chelsea an embarrassment of attacking riches.
Tijjani Reijnders (AC Milan to Man City)
It is not fair to ask anyone to be the new Kevin De Bruyne, and Reijnders is not a replica of the Belgian, but much of the responsibility for filling that hole will fall on the former AC Milan man.
Dutch international Reijnders, 26, is more of a box-to-box midfielder with prolific ball-carrying abilities and a talent for breaking lines with his passing. He also weighed in with 10 Serie A goals last season.
Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool)
Pushing Liverpool’s spending beyond a reported £250m this summer, forward Ekitike arrives off the back of a prolific season for Eintracht Frankfurt, for whom he scored 15 goals and notched eight assists. No one had more than his 117 shots.
The 23-year-old Frenchman struggled to break through at Paris Saint-Germain, but flourished in the Bundesliga, where he formed a formidable partnership with now Manchester City player Omar Marmoush.
Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford to Man Utd)
What a season Mbeumo had in 2024/25, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists as one of the Premier League’s standout players.
Whether the 25-year-old can reproduce those numbers is unknown, but Man Utd are hoping so after spending a hefty amount to secure his move up north.
He will likely compete with Amad as the right-sided attacking midfielder in Amorim's favoured 3-4-2-1 formation, prompting one of the two players to be used as a right wing-back.
Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest to Newcastle)
One of the biggest issues Newcastle fans had with their club’s transfer dealings last season was the lack of incoming players to improve their starting XI. Elanga does exactly that.
In two seasons at Nottingham Forest, the 23-year-old Swede routinely used his pace to beat opposition full-backs, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists in the last campaign.
Significantly, he seems to be improving year on year, showing exactly why Eddie Howe has wanted him for quite some time.
Mohammed Kudus (West Ham to Spurs)
Last season was a tricky one for Kudus, who managed just five goals and three assists for West Ham.
However, few players flourished at the club, and Spurs are banking on Kudus recapturing his best form that made him one of the most exciting dribblers and ball-carriers in the Premier League.
At home on the right flank, the 24-year-old Ghanaian will hope to be one of Spurs’ biggest attacking threats this season.
Rayan Ait-Nouri (Wolves to Man City)
Amid the big-money signings from foreign leagues, City’s move for the familiar face of Ait-Nouri – for a not outlandish fee – could be the finest to fly under the radar.
At Wolves, the Algerian showed wonderful ball-carrying ability from left-back that saw him notch 11 direct goal contributions last season, the most of any Premier League defender.
The 24-year-old should relish the amount of time City regularly spend in possession.
