VOTE: Which club have had the best transfer window ever?

Are we witnessing one of the best transfer windows by a club in history this summer?

After Liverpool and Arsenal completed the signings of Hugo Ekitike and Viktor Gyokeres respectively, last season's champions and runners-up have made a statement of intent, with 10 stellar additions between them this transfer window.

But where does the rivals' summer business rank when it comes to the best transfer windows of all-time? Football writer Ben Bloom selects 11 of the best, while you can have your say in our poll below.

Liverpool 2025/26

Notable signings: Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike, Giorgi Mamardashvili

One of the most notable aspects of Arne Slot’s first season at Anfield was the lack of incoming activity, with a scarcely used Federico Chiesa the only new face during a campaign that saw the Reds ease to the Premier League title. This summer, the Dutchman has kicked into transfer overdrive.

Club-record signing Wirtz is the biggest outlay – reportedly costing the club more than £100million – and arrives from Bayer Leverkusen with a huge weight of expectation. The recent acquisition of Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt is another major attacking boost.

At the back, Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure has been offset by the arrival of full-backs Frimpong and Kerkez. Mamardashvili, one of Europe’s best young goalkeepers, will also be hoping to push Alisson for a starting spot.

Arsenal 2025/26

Notable signings: Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard

Mikel Arteta knows wholesale changes at Arsenal should not be required after finishing second in the Premier League over each of the past three seasons. A tinker here, a tweak there and a new No 9 might just do the trick.

The reshaping of Arsenal's defensive midfield options has been swift with the capture of long-term target Zubimendi, who has the attributes to dictate games in a similar understated manner to Rodri at Manchester City. The shrewd addition of Norgaard also provides someone with plenty of Premier League know-how.

For too long shorn of a proper striker to lead the line, that absence is now filled by Gyokeres, who completes a remarkable career turnaround after failing to make the cut with Brighton & Hove Albion previously.

Does the Swede have the ability to excel in the world’s strongest league? It remains a big unknown and something of a risk for Arsenal, but his record over two seasons at Portuguese club Sporting was remarkable.

The move for Madueke has divided many fans, but the former Chelsea man is a versatile squad player with the ability to play a vital role through the season, while Kepa is the ideal back-up goalkeeper at a very low price.

Chelsea 2004/05

Notable signings: Didier Drogba, Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira, Arjen Robben, Tiago, Petr Cech, Mateja Kezman

It had been exactly half a century since Chelsea were crowned English champions when Jose Mourinho – off the back of winning the UEFA Champions League with Porto – took charge at Stamford Bridge in June 2004.

There followed a transformative transfer window that propelled the club to successive Premier League titles.

Among a raft of signings, Drogba was the headline act, brought in from Marseille. The Ivory Coast star would go on to become Chelsea’s fourth-highest goalscorer of all time.

Portuguese defenders Carvalho and Ferreira also arrived that summer, spending six and nine years at the club respectively, while Cech would remain first-choice goalkeeper for the following decade. The brilliant Robben shone in three injury-troubled seasons he spent in London.

Only Kezman and Tiago failed to deliver of the big-name summer arrivals.

Manchester City 2010/11

Notable signings: Yaya Toure, Mario Balotelli, David Silva, Aleksandar Kolarov, Jerome Boateng, James Milner

Two years after a takeover by new Abu Dhabi owners, Man City splashed out on a host of players in what would soon become a successful bid to rise to the top of the Premier League pile.

Silva and Toure were the standout acquisitions, with both going on to secure legendary status as two of the club’s greatest players. But that was far from all.

Kolarov proved a dangerous left-back, Balotelli provided moments of brilliance during his three years at the club, and the versatile Milner rarely missed a Premier League game over five seasons with City.

The new cohort won the FA Cup in their first year and went on to help City claim the Premier League title the following season.

Leicester City 2015/16

Notable signings: Shinji Okazaki, N’Golo Kante, Gokhan Inler, Robert Huth, Christian Fuchs

Absolutely no one would have looked at Leicester's 2015/16 summer incomings and tipped them for the Premier League title. Few would even have heard of most of the players who headed to the Midlands that summer. But what a legacy they would have.

The capture of Kante from Caen for barely more than £5m must rank as one of the greatest value-for-money transfers in Premier League history.

The Frenchman was instrumental in the Foxes' shock title win, but so were fellow summer signings Huth, Fuchs and Okazaki. None came close to costing £10m, while Fuchs was a freebie from Schalke.

Kante departed - for a huge profit - after that one season, Leicester’s glory did not last long, and they have been relegated from the top flight in their last two campaigns. But what a year it was.

Man City 2015/16

Notable signings: Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Otamendi, Fabian Delph

Things did not quite work out for Man City immediately after an outlay reportedly in the region of £150m in the summer of 2015.

Seeking to return to top spot after finishing runners-up the season before, the club would finish fourth and third over the next two campaigns. But then began a period of total dominance under Pep Guardiola, in which the quartet that had signed in that summer all played a role.

Top of the bill was De Bruyne, who recently departed as one of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier League. Sterling also formed a crucial component over seven hugely successful seasons for City.

Otamendi was a key part of City’s defence for many years, while only Delph failed to nail down a regular starting spot.

Chelsea 2014/15

Notable signings: Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, Filipe Luis, Loic Remy, Didier Drogba

Mourinho spent much of the first season of his Chelsea return in 2013/14 insisting that his team were not title contenders and were going through a transitional period. This subsequent transfer window was a chance to put the finishing touches to a project that saw Chelsea go on to be crowned Premier League champions the following campaign.

Mourinho’s two biggest coups were the additions of Costa from Atletico Madrid and Fabregas from Barcelona. Costa scored 20 Premier League goals and Fabregas notched 18 assists in a title-winning season that preceded a second one two years later.

Although the signings of Luis and Remy did not prove as impactful, the return of Drogba added vital experience to the bench.

Liverpool 2018/19

Notable signings: Alisson, Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri

A few weeks after the heartache of Loris Karius’ costly error against Real Madrid in the 2017/18 Champions League final, Liverpool opened the cheque book to bring in Alisson.

His was a signing that was vital in a historic two years for the club, which saw Liverpool win the Champions League in 2018/19, set a record points haul for second in the Premier League, with 97 points, and then go one better when becoming English champions a season later.

Other incomings were focused on midfield, where Jurgen Klopp brought in Keita, Fabinho and Shaqiri. Keita and Fabinho would become key figures over the following seasons.

Having already added Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk the previous year, the 2018/19 quartet proved the final pieces of a puzzle that yielded much joy for the club.

Manchester United 2007/08

Notable signings: Anderson, Nani, Owen Hargreaves, Carlos Tevez, Tomasz Kuszczak

Having won the Premier League the previous season, Man Utd’s 2007/08 summer signings ensured they were crowned English champions in three of the four years that followed. This first season also brought a Champions League triumph.

The club spent big to bring in midfielders Anderson and Nani from Portuguese sides Porto and Sporting respectively, and both would remain at Old Trafford into the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Hargreaves was a useful signing in that first season before injuries struck, but perhaps the best piece of business was a two-year loan move for Tevez, who scored 14 Premier League goals in 2007/08 when he proved the ideal foil for Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney in attack.

Southampton 2014/15

Notable signings: Sadio Mane, Shane Long, Dusan Tadic, Fraser Forster, Graziano Pelle, Toby Alderweireld, Ryan Bertrand

Looking back, it is remarkable how much talent made its way to the south coast in the summer of 2014.

Just four years after competing in League One, Southampton completed a huge squad overhaul that yielded a couple of memorable seasons with seventh and sixth-place Premier League finishes, Europa League appearances and an EFL Cup final.

New signings Pelle and Mane both topped 10 goals in their first campaign at the club, while Forster, Tadic and Bertrand instantly became mainstays of the team, alongside loanee Alderweireld.

Three players - Forster, Bertrand and Long - would still be at the club come the turn of the decade.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2018/19

Notable signings: Raul Jimenez, Rui Patricio, Adama Traore, Joao Moutinho, Diogo Jota, Willy Boly, Max Kilman, Leander Dendoncker

Wolves cleared the decks following their 2017/18 promotion to the Premier League and embarked on a wholesale upgrade across the board so as not to repeat their struggles the last time they were in the top flight. The result was back-to-back seventh-place finishes and a rare foray into Europe.

Top among a host of new faces was Jimenez, who initially signed on loan from Benfica before later making his move permanent. The Mexican scored 13 Premier League goals in his first season at Molineux and 17 in his second.

A strong Portuguese contingent was brought in, with Patricio becoming first-choice goalkeeper, Moutinho providing abundant class in the middle of the pitch, and Jota making his previous season’s loan move permanent.

Club-record signing Traore also emerged as a significant attacking threat, Boly was a mainstay in defence, and future club captain Kilman started his time as a Wolves player.
