Leeds sign midfielder Sean Longstaff from Newcastle

Promoted side make fifth acquisition of the summer as 27-year-old agrees a four-year deal

Leeds United have signed midfielder Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United.

Longstaff has agreed a four-year contract and is Leeds' fifth addition of the summer transfer window, following Sebastiaan Bornauw, Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol and Gabriel Gudmundsson.

“It was going to take a lot for us to leave Newcastle to be honest and I wasn’t just going to leave to go anywhere so it had to be the right place for me and my family and I think this is a perfect place,” Longstaff said in his first interview with Leeds.

Longstaff’s career so far

Born in Newcastle, England on 30 October 1997, Longstaff began his career with Newcastle's youth team in April 2014.

Longstaff then spent time on loan at Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock at the end of the 2016/17 season and then with Blackpool in 2017/18.

After a successful time away, Longstaff made his competitive first-team debut against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup in August 2018, before making his Premier League debut as a second-half substitute against Liverpool at Anfield that December.

Longstaff has also played five times in the UEFA Champions League and was part of the squad that won last season's EFL Cup against Liverpool at Wembley Stadium, Newcastle's first trophy in 56 years.
