Maritz and Switzerland make WEURO history

Noelle Maritz and Switzerland made history in Geneva this evening as they booked their place in the knockout stage of a UEFA Women EURO competition for the first time ever. Switzerland faced Finland at the Stade de Genève knowing that only a point would see them finish second in Group A and progress through to the quarter-finals. However Maritz, who featured for the full 90, and her side found themselves a goal behind with 11 minutes to go as Natalia Kuikka put Finland ahead from the spot. But the host nation remained composed and found their crucial equaliser in stoppage time as Riola Xhemaili swept home the goal to seal Swizterland's place in the final eight. Maritz and her country will face either Spain or Italy on Friday 18th July, 8pm kick-off, for a place in the final four.
