The BBC features quotes from Idrissa Gana Gueye after it was announced the midfielder has extended his Everton contract, seeing the Senegal international continue his stay on Merseyside until the end of June 2026 with an option for a further year. The highly-experienced midfielder enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 campaign, scooping the Club's Player of the Season award – which was voted for by supporters – as well as receiving the Players' Player of the Season. Gana said: “Everyone knows what Everton means to me and my family. After six seasons here, this club is more than just a place I play, it’s part of who I am. “I’m proud to start my seventh year as a Blue. Last season was a strong one for me personally, and I feel ready, fresh, and more driven than ever to keep pushing. “With our beautiful new stadium and a real sense of momentum throughout the Club, this season feels like a turning point, the chance to build something big and lasting. “We’ve got the foundations. Now it’s up to us: players, staff, the manager, the board, and most importantly, our fans, to come together so we can raise the bar again and take Everton back to where it belongs. “I’m fully committed to that challenge. Let’s go again. Together.” The BBC also covers Everton Women’s newest signing after it was announced Japan international centre-back Rion Ishikawa had joined the Club. The 22-year-old became the third addition for the Toffees this summer, after Spain Under-23 winger Ornella Vignola and Dutch midfielder Rosa van Gool penned deals with the Blues. On signing for Everton, Ishikawa said: "It is an honour to join the Club as we enter this new historic chapter. "Now that Goodison Park is our permanent home, we have to achieve strong results. "I feel a special connection because I am joining Everton when the club is beginning a new era. "I believe this league is the best in the world. I am really lucky I can compete in it." Head coach Brian Sorensen added: "We are really pleased to have signed a player of Rion’s quality,” he said. “She is a perfect match for what we are trying to build at Everton. “Her fearless nature and passion will make her a fans’ favourite, with her composure on the ball and powerful strength key attributes to her game. Despite being only 22, Rion has a lot of experience of playing at the top level and has achieved a lot on the international stage with Japan. She will be an important player for us. “I am excited to see her shine at Goodison Park as we enter this new chapter for our team.”
