Black Sabbath rock Villa Park with Back to the Beginning
Villa Park played host to history on Saturday, as the original Black Sabbath reunited on stage to headline the breathtaking Back to the Beginning show - their final performance. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward joined together for the first time in 20 years to perform some of their greatest hits before a bumper crowd in B6, after the Prince of Darkness had taken to the stage for a special solo set. The all-star, all-day event celebrated the true creators of heavy metal and, having got underway from the early afternoon hours, also featured sets from the likes of Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Tool Lamb Of God, Anthrax and Mastodon. The most anticipated rock event of the decade, hosted at the proud home of Aston Villa, Back to the Beginning will see all profits donated equally between Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice. Formed in Birmingham in 1968 by four proud Villans, Black Sabbath went on to become one of the most influential and successful metal bands of all time, selling over 75 million albums and defining a genre. Their last-ever performance was one to behold, capping off a truly memorable day at Villa Park.
