Liverpool agree deal to sign Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt

The 23-year-old French striker arrives after registering 34 goal contributions in all competitions last season

Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign striker Hugo Ekitike from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, subject to international clearance.

The 23-year-old arrives after scoring 22 goals and contributing 12 assists from 48 appearances across three competitions in 2024/25 and is Liverpool's fifth signing this summer, after Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.

Ekitike completed a medical at Anfield on Tuesday and agreed personal terms with the Reds. He will now fly out to Hong Kong to join his new team-mates as Liverpool embark on their pre-season tour of Asia later this week.

Ekitike’s career so far

Born in France on 20 June 2002, Ekitike's breakthrough came at his hometown club, Stade Reims.

After a loan spell with Danish Superliga side Vejle in 2021, he returned to score 11 times and assist four goals for Reims in 2021/22.

Ekitike moved to Paris Saint-Germain in July 2022, but opportunities were limited amid the presence of team-mates Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Ekitike joined Frankfurt on loan in February 2024 and after four goals in 14 league matches, the German club made the move permanent.

The following season he scored 15 league goals, four in the Europa League and three in the DFB-Pokal (the German cup). He also contributed 12 assists and was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2024/25.

On the international stage, Ekitike has impressed for France's Under-21s, scoring five times in as many appearances, notably a hat-trick in a 5-3 victory over England in March 2025.

When could Ekitike make his Liverpool debut?

Ekitike's first match in Liverpool colours could come in their pre-season friendly against AC Milan in Hong Kong on 26 July.

Liverpool start their defence of the Premier League title at home to AFC Bournemouth on 15 August.
