Arne Slot has remained tight-lipped over any prospective transfers, amid rumours Liverpool are close to signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Ahead of his first Premier League match at Anfield, the Liverpool head coach also discussed Jarell Quansah's fitness and former players Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg, who both recently signed for the Reds' weekend opponents, Brentford.

Mamardashvili, the squad and Gomez

Slot refused to comment on speculation surrounding a move for Mamardashvili and said that he is happy with his squad. He also spoke about Joe Gomez, who has been linked with a move away from the club, explaining why the defender didn't feature last weekend.

"If a deal is done, then you will hear from us. Until then, we don't speak about transfers or players that are not ours," Slot said.

"I trust the team. I've said before, I've inherited a very good team, a team of young players as well and we all know they can develop at the age they are at the moment.

"Gomez didn't play a lot at the [UEFA] Euros and in the first sessions, he couldn't train for the whole session so we had to manage his load and that was also the reason why he wasn't in the team last week."

Quansah an injury doubt

After Quansah was taken off at half-time against Ipswich Town, Slot spoke about the defender's reaction and whether the 21-year-old will be fit to face Brentford on Sunday.

"In a way you would expect a player to react. I spoke to him immediately after the game, and the day after, and he asked if he could train on Sunday," Slot explained.

"Normally, he should have done recovery, but he wanted to train. Unfortunately, on Tuesday, he picked up a bit of an injury but let's see if he can train today."

Why Van den Berg and Carvalho were allowed to leave

Slot also discussed Van den Berg and Carvalho, both of whom are set for a swift reunion with their former team-mates on Sunday.

"They both played a lot of minutes last season and the both of them wanted to continue that journey of playing time," Slot added.

"They were able to play for us, but there's so much competition in the positions they play, they wouldn't play every minute of every game.

"Then it was a good deal for us, for Brentford and the players. Everybody is happy unless they do too well on Sunday."
