West Ham United climbed to seventh after securing a late 3-1 turnaround victory at Everton.
Beto atoned for a penalty miss to put Everton ahead in the second half, but Kurt Zouma equalised for West Ham.
Then in the first minute of stoppage time, Tomas Soucek’s wonderful strike put the Hammers ahead, and the win was confirmed four minutes later by Edson Alvarez’s first league goal for the club.
How the match unfolded
Sean Dyche made two changes to his side, as Beto and Amadou Onana replaced Idrissa Gueye and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while West Ham were unchanged from their victory over Brentford on Monday night.
It was a slow start from both sides. Alvarez nearly forced the opening goal with a fierce long-range shot but it was palmed wide by Jordan Pickford.
In the 24th minute, Beto had a golden opportunity to give Everton the lead. Dwight McNeil’s through-ball was picked up by the forward, but his low strike was saved by Alphonse Areola.
Beto then had an even better opportunity as Everton were awarded their first penalty of the season in the 43rd minute after Zouma had handled his cross.
In the absence of Calvert-Lewin, the Portuguese forward stepped up but was denied by Areola who got down quick to his left.
In the 56th minute Beto redeemed himself, converting James Garner’s pinpoint cross at the back-post with his head.
It was nearly a quickfire double for Everton as Jack Harrison’s cross found McNeil, who couldn’t guide his volley past Areola.
On 62 minutes, the visitors answered back with a header of their own, Zouma’s glanced effort from James Ward-Prowse’s corner found the top corner to level the score.
The goal did not dent Everton’s ambitions. Soucek made a wonderful goalline clearance on 70 minutes to prevent Abdoulaye Doucoure from scoring.
And then the Czech midfielder went one better as in the first minute of stoppage time Mohammed Kudus’s back post cross found Soucek, whose outside-of-the-boot shot was rifled into the far corner.
Four minutes later, Jarrod Bowen played Alvarez through on goal and the Mexican chipped the onrushing Pickford to secure his side the three points that lifts West Ham to seventh, with 42 points.
Everton drop to 16th with 25 points, just five clear of the relegation zone and are now winless in 10.
