Chelsea head coach says forward suffered discomfort in his knee during draw with Dortmund

Mauricio Pochettino is hoping Christopher Nkunku has not suffered a serious knee injury after the Chelsea forward was substituted against Borussia Dortmund in pre-season.

Nkunku played just over 20 minutes of the 1-1 draw in Chicago, going down clutching his leg following a challenge, before being replaced by Mykhailo Mudryk.

"The doctors are checking him and I hope it is not a big issue," Pochettino told the club's official website. "He fell in the action which was maybe a penalty and he feels something in his knee but we hope it is nothing big.

"We hope he can be back quickly with the team. We need a few days to assess him."

Nkunku's pre-season highlights

Nkunku has enjoyed a fine start to his Chelsea career since joining from RB Leipzig this summer.

He has scored three times in pre-season, with two goals coming in the Premier League Summer Series, which Chelsea won.
