Packs given to local primary school pupils included books by Bear Grylls and matchday programmes

Activity packs handed out by the Manchester United Foundation helped provide cheer to local primary school pupils.

Contained within the packs were books by survival instructor and TV personality Bear Grylls, a matchday programme and fun activity worksheets, along with some food and drink.

The first batch of 1,000 packages were delivered to St. Luke's R.C. Primary School in Salford, where a small number of children are still attending.

Julia, one of the pupils at the school, was thrilled when she received her pack.

"We were doing PE and suddenly everyone got really excited when we saw the bags arrive; it was really cool," said the 10-year-old. "I really like Bear Grylls, so it's really exciting to get one of his books. I love reading, so that will keep me occupied through lockdown."

Grylls revealed he was delighted to be involved with this giveaway and to help inspire schoolchildren in the local community.

"I'm proud to know that my books will play a small part in helping keep young people in Manchester entertained and motivated during this difficult time," he said.

Along with this initiative, Man Utd and the Foundation have donated funds to partner schools, supported the NHS through meal donations and delivered goods to food banks in the local community.
