Portsmouth's Hassan Yebda says Tuesday's match against Sunderland may represent the last chance of survival.
The 5-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday left Pompey seven points adrift at the bottom with 14 matches to play.
The south coast club were nine points adrift with only 10 matches left when they survived in 2006, but Yebda recognises time is running out.
"If we win against Sunderland it will be very important for us," Yebda told the club's official website.
"We have to give everything on Tuesday because maybe it's the last chance for us. We have to know that and go onto the pitch with a good mentality.
"Maybe the pressure will be good for us. We have to demonstrate what we can do."
very difficult
Portsmouth acquitted themselves well at Old Trafford, but Wayne Rooney's goal before half-time opened the floodgates.
"It was a disappointing game but Man United deserved to win," added Yebda.
"We were in the game for the first 40 minutes, but after we conceded the first goal, it was very difficult for us.
"Man Utd were unbelievable. Wayne Rooney is one of the best players in the world while Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher were outstanding in midfield.
"But now we have to concentrate on the next game against Sunderland at home. We'll do everything to win that game.
"We were disappointed in the dressing-room afterwards. We have to train hard and make up for it against Sunderland."
Eight of Portsmouth's last 14 matches are at home, with five against sides in the bottom half of the table.
