Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson has told sections of his side they must improve.
The Reebok Stadium outfit currently sit in 19th in the Barclays Premier League, having won just three top-flight matches all season and Megson has called on his players to get them out of trouble.
The Trotters will have been particularly disappointed to lose 2-1 to fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out, a result that saw Mick McCarthy's side climb above them in the relegation zone.
exceptional players
"I don't like criticising my players publicly but three or four of them are not playing like I know they can," said the 50-year-old.
"We've got exceptional players who are not playing as well as I know they can. Our club deserves better than this. We're in trouble.
"With two home games coming up, there has to be a realisation of what we're doing.
"The message is not getting through to a few of the players."
Bolton's next match in the Barclays Premier League is a tough home fixture to Manchester City, who will be buoyed by their victory over title chasing Chelsea last weekend.
They then face a crucial midweek match at home to fellow strugglers West Ham United before a local derby against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.
