The Swede was seen as the replacement for Nicolas Anelka when he joined after a prolific spell from Toulouse in 2008 but scored just five goals in 30 Barclays Premier League appearances last season.

He only managed his first goal of the current campaign in the 5-1 defeat at Aston Villa in the last Barclays Premier League match, after previously being left out of the team by Megson.

"He has found himself out of the team and whether that has had a positive effect, I don't know," said Megson.

"It is a big season for him and it was nice he scored against Aston Villa.

feeling better

"He is a good player, but he's got to deliver on a regular basis the same as everybody else."

Elmander himself said recently that his confidence is returning and that he is feeling better about his football.

"The turning point came when I had a decent international against Hungary (in September)," he said.

"I felt I still had it in me. I could run and it didn't hurt and the touch was still there.

"The last month has felt fantastic. It feels like that Toulouse form is finally here again."
