Portsmouth's Aruna Dindane has thanked team-mate Kevin-Prince Boateng after he scored his first English hat-trick.
Pompey enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 home win against Wigan Athletic, their first of the season, with Dindane netting a hat-trick and Frederic Piquionne also on the scoresheet at Fratton Park.
Dindane scored his third in the dying seconds of the match when former Tottenham Hotspur man Boateng handed him the ball to take a penalty after Emmerson Boyce fouled Kanu.
first hat-trick
"Prince said to me, 'Take it for your hat-trick. Take the ball and score'," said Dindane.
"For a striker, football is all about confidence. It's difficult if you haven't got confidence. But everyone here at the club has helped me so much so I'm very happy for them.
"The confidence has come for me and Frederic Piquionne - and we can do better."
After going four Barclays Premier League matches without scoring, 28-year-old Dindane, who joined the south coast outfit on loan from Lens in the summer, was delighted to have proved his doubters wrong.
"It's my first hat-trick in England, so it's special for me," he added, "It's good for a striker to score. It's good to score. Now, I hope to do the same in the next game.
"I feel happy, I've scored three. I've been working hard since I came here and I'm pleased I've scored for my confidence. I'm in the team, I'm happy and I'm confident."
Next up for Dindane and Portsmouth is a tricky Barclays Premier League fixture with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday.
