The former Swansea City coach succeeded Steve Bruce at the DW Stadium in the summer and has enjoyed a decent start to his reign, with the Latics currently sitting in 10th place in the Barclays Premier League.

Saturday's 3-1 win away to Burnley was the Latics' fourth in the top-flight this season and Boyce, who netted Wigan's third goal at Turf Moor, believes they are also becoming a more cultured side.

Boyce said: "It was always going to take time when you have a new manager and new players, but we feel we're getting there and we fully understand what he wants from us.

"In the last couple of seasons, we've been known as more of a physical and hard-working team, but the manager has brought in some flair players and we're passing the ball around really well.

"We're also playing a new system, which was always going to take time to get used to.

"We've proved we can play well at home and now we have to prove that we can away from the DW Stadium as well."

Next up for Martinez's men is a trip to the Barclays Premier League's bottom club Portsmouth on Saturday.
