Hull City secured their second win in two days with a comfortable 3-0 victory over non-league side Winterton Rangers.

Following a string of fine saves from Rangers keeper Jamie Allan, Hull finally made the breakthrough on 43 minutes as youngster Tom Cairney smashed home from close range.

hour mark

It was not until after the hour mark when the away side doubled their lead as veteran midfielder George Boateng drilled a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area on 63 minutes.

Trialist Jerome Thomas continued his good form following his half-time introduction and it was from his shot that Hull grabbed their third as Dean Marney netted a rebound.

Liverpool slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Rapid Vienna in their latest pre-season friendly in Austria.

Rapid skipper Steffen Hofmann netted the only goal with a second half free-kick to see off a strong Reds side which included Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Yossi Benayoun.

Gerrard and Carragher played the first 45 minutes while Benayoun and Holland international Dirk Kuyt came on at the break as manager Rafael Benitez made plenty of changes.

England defender Glen Johnson was not part of the matchday squad, however, after Benitez opted not to risk him after he took a slight knock to his Achilles in Wednesday's goalless draw against St Gallen.

A second-half goal from Carlos Edwards proved enough as Sunderland overcame Portuguese side Portimonense 1-0.
